I like the fact most classes are included in the membership. However, the lack of a free fitness assessments and orientations make the YMCA a poor choice for those needing additional instruction. They should not be forced to purchase a personal training session in order to get started in a safe and effective exercise program. I hold an exercise physiology degree and a RN license and the instruction that some of the members receive can be dangerous. Especially for those that have some contraindications to exercise. Qualified instructors are not cheep, however, the are essential for many of your members. I love your Livestrong program but the marketing, implementation, and delivery has been poor at your particular YMCA. That being said I understand the YMCA can’t be all things to all people. However, it should be safe.
