Chair Yoga and walking. We joined the "Y" seven months ago to walk indoors, out of the sun/heat which has cause us some physical problems. After a month or so, a very friendly lady at the Y introduced us to another function. We absolutely love 'Chair Yoga' with Ms. Catana E. We are both retired, around 70 years old and in need of some flexibility, balance, and strengthening and these classes are perfect. Our family doctor had recommended Chair Yoga as a very good way to keep muscles and joints working and we are sold. The chair is the key since it is the 'support' we need when our strength and balance are not the best. Catana is a great teacher, particularly good with newcomers to Chair Yoga giving extra clarification, precautions about limits/pain, teaching the anatomy and its limits with aging, providing real life situations to relate, a great teacher for all ages. As she tells us, it takes some time and repetition to help with areas needing improvement and it does happen. Having back problems most of my life and physical therapy seemed to make things worse, Chair Yoga has helped all the core areas including the legs and hips and shoulders and now I can bend over easier and go down to and up from the floor much easier, without pain but still cautiously. Chair Yoga may graduate us to gentle yoga or the unsupported versions of yoga but it is perfect for us now and we enjoy all aspects of this great class and the teachers!!
