My children were born in Thailand and I returned with them in 2014 to the US my daughter began 2nd grade with a good deal of catching up to do in her studies, especially in English. Her ability in math was above grade level at that time, but by the time she was ready to begin 7th grade at a new middle school things had shifted to the point where she was beginning to struggle to keep up in math.
That was when we decided to give Mathnasium a try. I transferred and re-entered university studies towards a bachelor's degree and do not have the time to try preparing lessons for her myself, and the instructors at Mathnasium have training and expertise that I do not. My ability in mathematics is not enough, on it's own, to do the job as efficiently or effectively as they do.
The entrance test gives the starting skill levels of the student, and lessons are given to address individual skills needed in the right order to support the next level of learning. Priority of skills in mathematics are necessary because higher skills are based on the earlier ones. Instructors at Mathnasium have experience and education in teaching mathematics specifically, too. Together this means that they are far more effective than I could be if I had time to try reinventing the wheel, so to speak. A third very important factor is that the relationship between an instructor and student is not complicated by a familial relationship, which I had already see was a difficulty when working with my daughter at home. The structure of lessons at Mathnasium includes time for playing games with other students who are there, too, which adds an element of socialization important to higher motivation for my daughter.
To summarize, while I have the ability in mathematics to solve any problems my daughter will see, that doesn't mean that I can teach her to have these skills. Trained instructors use testing and lesson results to analyze skill levels and to prioritize lesson and skill progression in a way unlikely to have been done by myself, even if I assume that I could effectively teach her the skills that she needs (I don't make that assumption, though.)
My daughter is now back in the position where mathematics at school is her easiest subject. We will continue using Mathnasium through the time that she takes college entrance exams, if not longer. They know better than I how to teach math, they are better at determining what skills come first, and they have analytics in place to support their more effective approach. There is just no way that I could have had the effect that they have had in the same time frame, and my daughters grades reflect this already. Now if only they had Mathnasium for science, reading, and writing...
My daughter has been enrolled for 3 months now and her confidence has grown tremendously. She is not afraid to take on difficult problems and no longer complains about her math homework!

We are very pleased with our son's experience at Mathnasium! I just had a conference call with my son's high school math teacher (10th grade, Integrated III) and her observations for my son's performance whereas follows:
Significant improvement in his performance this semester.
Now asks very pointed questions regarding math problems
His confidence has improved exponentially
He is now above his peers with performance in the class
We've seen his grades rise over the last semester and believe it is a direct result of his time spent at Mathnasium. His teacher was very happy to hear he was attending Mathnasium on a weekly basis and said their program is strong and supports her work in the classroom. No doubt is has been money well spent!
The counselors at Mathnasium are always courteous, professional and helpful! I am confident my daughter is receiving the best math tutoring possible.
My son's confidence has grown as a result of weekly session. He had weak math teachers in middle school and has many holes in his math knowledge. As a high schooler he's playing catch up but we couldn't do it without the help of mathnasium.
He does wish it was a bit more quiet, many younger kids are loud and active and there's not much of a response from employees.
I appreciate the franchise owner's desire to meet the needs of a somewhat challenging 17 year old from a math perspective. She does a good job of communicating with me as well as finding ways to relate to my daughter. I am amazed that my daughter actually wants to go to Mathnasium without me having to push.

Math was our hardest subject. It was like pulling teeth to get my son to do his work. But at mathnasium they work with him to find the answers in way he understands. He looks forward to going . I look forward to him actually understanding math.

Everyone at Mathnasium Murfreesboro was so sweet to my child. They always made her feel welcome and helped math be less intimidating. We were only able to do it for the summer, but it helped keep her mind on math during the break from school. I even learned some helpful math tricks!

Mathnasium was an excellent addition to our first year of homeschool! They were able to fill in so many gaps to make our son feel more confident and successful in math! I am very thankful for each tutor who worked with him and encouraged him! He always looked forward to going to each session during our 3 month program!
My son is in 3rd grade an was having a hard time with math. His behavior started to change lack of help at school with math an it was upsetting him everyday. Tried to reach out to school no help so i look further to see what i could find to help him get his motivation back. Found Mathnasium an his only been going for a month can see the difference already and we are both happy again. Mathnasium is a very good program. I took Houston out simply because he was not applying himself in order to get better grades. The staff at Mathnasium were great.
I would still like to see his progress report for March 2019. I never received it.
I am hoping that Houston will one day soon want to get better at Math and see that he needs extra help. He will be entering sixth grade in the Fall and I'm sure he will struggle just like he is this year.
