Our child has been thriving and clearly Mathnasium has instilled a love for Math! That's a win - we will definitely recommend Mathnasium to friends; as we already have and believe they already signed up. We however want to provide feedback regarding one of the teachers/tutors/coaches. We've met Chriss, Gabriel and Natsuura at the event and while Chriss and Gabriel both have great interpersonal style and professional approach, Natsuura gives off a "smarter than you" and condescending vibe. He clearly is smart and knows his stuff and no doubt can help older kids thrive in Math; but especially with younger kids, Natsuura's approach may not be the greatest. At the Mathnasium event, as you know, he was manning the "spin the wheel" booth. He gave our child a second grade level problem and did not recognize that our child doesn't even read yet. My child was clearly uncomfortable, but he kept pushing my child to come up with the answer, with little coaching or prodding - he's only been doing Mathnasium for a couple of months, and I disagree with the approach Natsuura took. With our child's age, we feel that tutors need to have the appropriate interpesonal skills and approach - encompassing empathy, communication, and adaptability to create an effective and comfortable learning environment.
