Our first year of basketball woth JER Chilton. Coach Robert White has done an amazing job working with my son.
We really wish that there was a basketball option for him beyond age 13.
We have loved playing basketball this season. Our coach was excellent. Our boys have learned a lot from him, more than any other program we have been in so far.
Great youthful experience for kids!!

I
This is my first year coaching basketball for 3rd grade boys through the YMCA and we’ve had a very successful season so far (we’re 5-1 so none of what I’m about to say has anything to do with losing). Actually, the majority of my experience has been very positive mainly due to Carson Hauck. There was some miscommunication and scheduling mishaps at the beginning of the year but Carson stepped in and resolved the situation quickly. He even helped coordinate a way for us to scrimmage a team when we otherwise would’ve been left with no game and found a way for us to make up the missed game up later in the year so that we would have a chance to play everyone in our division. We’ve had wonderful referees for all but one game. There a man/woman combo that are the best! Wish I knew their names but they’re typically on Court A at Utley and we love them! But that one game was a terrible experience. We had never had this man ref before and from the get-go there were red flags. Parents from other teams told me before the game that he was “on one” and to be ready for crazy calls. I had no idea what to expect, because we had only ever had positive experiences, so I didn’t take their opinions too seriously. But, by the time we tipped off, I understood what they were talking about. He didn’t know the rules specifically for 3rd grade basketball and called every foul he possibly could, as though these kids were professionals. He was malicious, disrespectful, and spiteful. He issued 4 technical fouls in our game- 3 of them against my team- when we’ve not had so much as a warning this whole year. He made it a terrible experience for the coaches, players, and fans and I personally don’t think he should be refereeing children sports. My team was frustrated to tears because that man was so adamant on condemning me for choosing to have him call fouls. Yes, he gave me the option to “call fouls or let them play and get into a groove”. I’ve trained my team to practice like you play so I don’t allow them to travel, walk, or foul in practice so why would I want them to be allowed to do that in a game and get away with it? That’s not teaching them the real game of basketball. I asked the man to please hold them accountable in the game and he scoffed at me and ran off with a chip on his shoulder. From that point on, he called every ticky-tack foul and 3 seconds in the lane that he could and threw my decision back into my face every chance he had. I had to ask my 3rd grade boys to have my back at half time because for some reason this man was adamant to make me pay for my decision…and my boys absolutely had my back.
Although we still won the game, I contacted Carson afterwards to ensure my team wouldn’t have to go through that mess again since we were slated to have a 2nd game on that same court later in the day. Carson got our game moved to a different court and he even showed up to our game to make sure things ran smoother this time. I appreciate that Carson and Hassan take the initiative to resolve things quickly when things go sideways- which is bound to happen. Most of my issues were handled specifically by Carson so I have to shout him out for the exceptional service. Thank you for what you do and I appreciate how efficiently you pivot when issues arise.

My daughter’s swim teacher was super nice and patient. My daughter had so much fun and learned a lot.
