Very well run program. My son learned a lot and we look forward to taking the next stage in the program.
Swimming pools, friendly atmosphere, weight classes & yoga classes
Staff is frendly
The Montclair Y is clean, well organized, workout equipment is in excellent shape, the staff is always visible and the pool is great. We’re very lucky to have this in our town. Love it!!
Although the Y has changed since I started attending primarily classes, it still is a comfortable place to be. I don’t know many of the people there anymore but when I am there, I feel like I can call upon them to assist me or direct me. As a senior citizen now, I primarily use the cardio machines and circuit room. When I was younger, I LOVED the classes. I wish there were more classes for seniors. I will have to navigate through the class listings.
Lots of opportunity for working out.
I love the senior level 2 and 3 balance/ endurance classes w Jackie ...love the vibe. energy and music . Pam's Taste of Tai Chi offers a rewarding and very different kind of discipline. Even though I am in and out due to my current schedule I like the vibes and sense of community. Also, there is a fair amount of equipment available. When I have more free time I intend to try more classes as many seem wonderful and I must say that every class I have tried, I like.
My older son participates in the diverse abilities lessons on Wednesday night. After many failed attempts over the years, it is the first class that the instructors are able to meet him exactly where he needs them to, getting him into the pool and actually showing weekly improvement toward swim goals each week. It has been by far the best experience with swim lessons we have ever had for our neurodivergent child.
Our instructor Janet was great, everyone was friendly and helpful at the facility and the pool and locker rooms are clean and spacious.
Armando was really great to work with. He was extremely patient with my neurodivergent child. Other swim instructors would tell me they couldn’t work with her because she didn’t like putting her face in the water but Armando gave me advice on what I can do to help her.
What I’ve appreciated over the years—both in the past and present—as a member is the consistently welcoming atmosphere. When my sons were toddlers through their young adulthood, there were always plenty of kid- and family-friendly activities, from swimming lessons to family swim nights. We also benefited from other great offerings like child care and summer camp. For my husband and me, we especially enjoyed the adult amenities, including the weight room, swimming classes, and a wide variety of exercise classes.
My instructor was amazing!
I thought Gaudy was great. She taught us gradually and logically. I had swimming lessons when I was a kid, then big group lessons at the Y in 1990. I learned things I never knew and my stroke is getting stronger. It's a great feeling. Thanks!
Yes I like
My daughter has had a fantastic experience with Faith and I can see how she has improved each time I get to see her swim!
The MTC YMCA offers a diverse range of classes throughout the day, making it easy for everyone to find a schedule that suits their needs. The facility is spacious and equipped with a variety of exercise equipment and areas for stretching or yoga, and two swimming pools. Most importantly, the MTC YMCA serves as a hub for community engagement. The staff and members are welcoming and friendly, creating a positive atmosphere for everyone—young and old, athletes and beginners alike.
My lessons with Janet and Gaudy were exactly why I wanted to take lessons-- they helped me to overcome my fear of entering deep water. I still can't tread water for a long period, but thanks to their patience and skillful teaching, I am getting more comfortable in the deep end.
The comfy new furniture!
Amazing teachers and amazing classes!!!
Billy, my instructor, has the patience I need to focus on the lesson and not just the water
I like the variety of classes offered at the YMCA. The instructors are good and the classes have helped me in so many ways. Participating in the Prevent T2 Diabetes Prevention Program has been extremely helpful. My Doctor was very impressed with my latest weight and most of my numbers have been lowered to the normal range. They were quite excited and wanted to know what I have been doing? The YMCA classes and programs get all of the credit.
The lifestyle change is important to keep up and I see the need for continued work and classes. Thank you for helping me to help m myself.. Greatest compliment from my Dr. quote "I want to be like you when I grow up'.
Again thank you for helping me to take control of my health. First name removed Russell Last name removed

My son really enjoys swimming...the instructors work well with him.
Miss Gaudy is an amazing, warm and patient instructor! Jessica has been incredibly helpful in arranging our schedule. The front desk staff are also helpful and love to say hello :)
I appreciate that the Y is so inclusive. Also that there is such a range of fitness activities and classes
Ease of scheduling and variety of classes, community
I like swimming in the large pool, well-maintained and not too much chlorine. I like the super clean women’s locker room with showers and sauna.
I enjoy the gym and the pool. The staff is helpful. Keep up the good work.

Great place! Excellent facilities and staff. Community focused. What's not to like?!
