Employee Testimonials
The staff and workers are very positive and uplift each other. When days are a little more difficult there is always someone willing to help. Also, getting to meet all the animals and care for them in some way whether it’s when I get to clean their cages or socialize with them. The behavioral team is amazing, always willing to help when needed and they’re very open to anyone who want to learn. But the only thing that would probably be a con would be the pay because it is a lot of work you have to do and some people aren’t willing to do that for only 11 dollars an hour.
The ability to help others.
Working at the BVSPCA has a lot of ups and downs. It's a physically and mentally draining sometimes if not often. There's a lack of communication when it comes to a lot of animals. Sometimes there is a lack of support when we are dealing with angry or "entitled" people that comes in. BVSPCA has a lot of favoritism and it really shows. Or when they have been reports of animals getting abused with witnesses and evidence and nothing is done about it. A dog was almost euthanized due to false claims.
But other than that. I have learn a lot from working from here and would like to continue to grow with the company
I love working with animals.
I take my time with our animals to gauge their personalities to make sure they get their very outcome to their forever home.
I like the mission and the people
I like the mission and the people
There are many things to like about the BVSPCA, but what keeps me invested into this organization is the fact that they are truly about the lifesaving work. They have been able to demonstrate that priority over the years through their mentorship & embedd program, emergency relief efforts, second chance program, and new progressive programs to bring adopters through our doors. I truly feel it will always be a part of their core values no matter what changes occur, that to me is worth far more then anything I could ask for.
Over the past couple of years, they have invested into improving wages and benefits for their employees. Consistently looking to do better and actively seeking new ways to ensure their staff are cared for.
I'm excited to continue my journey with the BVSPCA and hope that my personal contributions to the work helps them achieve their goals of a more humane community and country.

Working with the animals and saving lives
I like how fast-paced the environment is and how passionate everybody is towards our mission.
At the Humane Society of Harrisburg Area, the staff and volunteers work together, as a team, to provide excellent care for the animals and truly display a friendly welcome attitude with the public.
The facilities are visually impressive, always clean, and the air is free of odors. The recent addition of air conditioning and dog runs have been wonderful upgrades.
Staff and volunteers are appreciated and recognized for their efforts. Birthday, Get Well, Retirement, and Thank You cards are signed by all levels of management and staff and delivered appropriately. Social events are also provided for all who care to participate.
Suggestions and feedback are encouraged and appreciated. And there has also been a focus on increasing the number and training of volunteers.
