Our 2nd grader has been struggling with spelling and I'm so grateful we found Sylvan. The owner, Bianca, and the Director, Courtney, truly care about the success of their students. When our son got started, Bianca called his teacher at school to discuss his challenges and the class curriculum to understand how best to help him, and she pro-actively suggests parent conferences with us to check in on his progress. Sylvan offers a structured, comprehensive and step-by-step curriculum, which is why we switched from the one-on-one tutoring we had been doing. Now I can rest assured that all the fundamentals are being covered in a tried-and-true sequential order. Sylvan awards kids with "points," which they can save up and redeem for prizes like Lego sets, Squishmallows, sports jerseys, etc. -- these premium rewards help make going to tutoring exciting and motivating. Overall, highly recommend.

Hiring Sylvan to tutor our child was a true game changer. Our son, who just started in 9th Grade at a private school, was during Middle School, an average B minus math student. He felt bored by the way math was taught in class and consequently started to doubt his capabilities to succeed long term in any field involving math. Despite several prior math tutors, his lack of enthusiasm and progress remained unchanged. We did not understand why he seemed to struggle as much as he did considering that he was an A student in other disciplines. It was then that we chose Sylvan and in particular the husband and wife team, Jerry and Bianca Coker, owners of Sylvan's Brentwood branch in West Los Angeles. They immediately conducted an in - house assessment test which concluded that our son did in fact not have any problems grasping math concepts. What was wrong was how math had been taught to him until 8th Grade. Sylvan's forward thinking approach to teaching has since transformed our son (2 hours tutoring per week) into a confident A math student to the point that it is one of his favorite subject in school. We now firmly believe that Sylvan is the perfect tutoring supplement to our child's academic curriculum throughout High School.
