Wonderful silver sneakers coach, Andrea!!
Like the pool and the openness and friendliness
I love the clean open feeling of the building. The staff is friendly and helpful and the childcare workers are amazing. We joined to get my oldest in swim lessons and have enjoyed that experience watching her gain confidence and skills from the thoughtful instructors.

Yoga
Updated gym equipment, lots of class options, very clean building, good parking, good location.
We really like the swim instructors charles and rachelle has been amazing registering my kids and accommodating them according to level.
My concern: covid protocols r not being followed and no one is wearing a mask in the hallways - people who r not playing an actively or participating in gym should be wearing a mask before we r shut down again.
I love the chair yoga!
I love the instructors are very involved with classes. Swim class is amazing and very proactive. The courses are an effective use of the time given for the class.

Great equipment and community focus. Need some morning classes that are not Silver Sneakers.
Flexibility to work individually or participate in structured group activities. Everyone working there that I’ve met is kind and incredibly helpful.
The Lakewood YMCA connects to the community in so many ways providing a variety of programs that support mind, body, and soul. It is inclusive and diverse in membership and the people and staff are very helpful.

When I retired from a 50 year career as a pharmacist, I started going to the Lakewood Y to use the aerobic equipment. I watched from the 2nd floor windows the swimmers in the pool below me. My PCP told me I was too old to learn to swim.
Never-the-less I hired one of the YMCA instructors I watched who had been teaching a bunch of 3 year old boys and girls how to float. The first lesson we sat on the edge of the pool, didn't get in, and discussed life and goals and trust. If I would trust her, she would teach me to swim.
Every week for 8 months we moved around the pool, Amy always within an arm's length from me. Floating was the first big issue. I was sure I couldn't float, ever. 3rd time together I was floating. Trust Amy became more than just a suggestion. One day a few weeks later I swam from the shallow to the deep end, Amy next to me. The swimming continued. Freestyle, breast stroke, back stroke, frog kick.
Eventually Amy stayed on the deck just walking and watching. In those eight months Amy had to reach out and pull me to the wall three times. She kept her word. One day she told me she had nothing more to teach me and handed me off to another instructor to 'refine' my technique. I had permission and confidence to swim by myself, anywhere.
Since then I have swum in pools wherever my travels have taken me. Always Trust Amy became a mantra that I still recite when learning something new or different. Without the swim program at the YMCA I would never had learned to swim nor overcome many of the physical constraints of aging. I'm 83 now and, until the pandemic, swam four to five miles a week. Oh, and I fired that PCP. Myron Palay
