Great exercise classes.
Everything - best place to workout ever!
Friendly staff. Choice of classes. Luv my Zumba instructor on Saturday mornings! Class feels like family! Location!! Everything!!! And now the remodel…how lucky can we get??!!
The spacious gym area, good parking areas, clean well maintained equipment.
I love the recent upgrades! Very nice!
I like the new cardio and very appreciative of that. Life Fitness is an excellent product. Surprised to not see any Life Fitness Arc Trainers. Probably the best cardio piece on the market for its ergonomic movement. I don't know of the final construction plans, but additional stretching/core space is needed.
I love the wellness center. The people that work there are wonderful.
Wellness area is beautiful and there are more family wellness programs and classes- outside of organized sports. You listened to the feedback of your members.
The Foster "Y" is nearby, the new weight room is great, and the pool is heated. What's not to like?
You’re doing a great job, I love my local YMCA.
The Harriet and Joe Foster Y is undergoing extensive, long needed renovations! The weight room has doubled in size, thank goodness! The machines are updated! And, the room is spotless. Lighting is excellent, too.
I've been going to that Y for years and it is a friendly place. The staff is available and always helpful.
It’s not your programs and activities. It’s the membership comprised largely of long-time Northside residents that prompts me to ardently recommend the MDA Y. Your programs and activities? I don’t see any signs that these exist, other than the literal sign out front announcing the existence of a team sport for kids.
Where are DeShaun and Larry? When the MDA first re-opened, they were exactly half the staff. Now they are gone and only the two young woman up front remain. A facility director? I vaguely remember seeing a person identified as such floating around like an ethereal being for a couple of days, but that was last spring. Never said “boo” to any members as far as I know, much less come into the gym at the start of a class to say howdy do to the participants.
You expect those two young women at the desk and the janitor to run this place and make it a success? That tells members volumes about how much the YMCA of Greater Houston values them and the MDA Y. Bleeding the MDA to death by cutting off its access to vital resources would be a grave and shameful mistake. I hope that that is not Corporate’s intent and that the value of this historic neighborhood institution will be recognized, and its future made a YMCA long-term planning priority.
Thank you.

Even under construction the staff did great welcoming the families. My family enjoyed going daily to the pool this summer. We look forward to enjoying the year around pool.
Family oriented
I really like the instructors like Amelie and Laura. They always show up and give their best as though Bodyattack were the only thing of importance in that moment. They are both positive and encouraging even though the class is grueling.
Convenience.
I would like or see body flow back.
Also don’t understand why Monica replaced all of our teachers. All the classes were full before Covid and we all wanted to come back. Nothing against the people she brought in but I never understood why.
Elliot -step was amazing
Cynthia Nava- body flow Sunday
Morgan- Tues and Thursday class was always packed.
I love the Step class with Oanh! It’s very motivating.
Good variety & level of difficulties
Family Oriented, great personnel!
You offer a variety of group classes.
Well during the construction, the pool is the main draw! Glad it will be open year round now.
I like the classes but am not coming again until COVID dies back because i am one of the very few wearing a mask.
I love my early morning classes with John Dalton. He is the best instructor! I go all 3 mornings a week. His Pilates class keeps me from having to go to the chiropractor. I am not a fan of yoga or body flow. I am afraid Pilates will go away because of low numbers, but I think it struggles because it started in the gym during Covid. I wouldn't mind Pilates another morning. Saturday morning Powerflex is also at a great time!
Swimming. Happy that the pool will be open all year long. Waiting for the weight room to open up again.
Family friendly
I am handicapped and use the pool to exercise. The life guards are very attentive and helpful. I would feel more comfortable getting in and out of the pool if there was a higher rail to hold on too. Please consider adding a taller rail. The two present rails at the steps are geared toward children. The life guards have ordered parts for the chair which will be helpful.
The instructor for Forever Well (John) has been great.
I have been an active member for 39 years and go on a regular basis to the dance and yoga classes and water aerobics. The teachers we have had are wonderful, Love Rae, John and Layla.
I wish we had water aerobics in the evening and more classes on Sat. & Sunday mornings.
Additionally, many of my friends are on Medicare Advantage with the Silver Sneaker benefit and we are sorry to see so many people leave because the Y and Silver Sneaker could not reach an agreement.
The Y at one time welcomed seniors (even non-members) for game days and other senior opportunities but that is also not available. I think if we could invite non-members it might be a way to bring some of them back as members.
Excellent facilities
Very well kept and clean place
Good classes such as cardio dance with Rae
Water exercise with Paige
Water Zumba with Leila ? Sat 8:30 am
