When I moved to Louisville in 2011, I was looking for a safe place my grandchildren and I to enjoy free time. In 2010 and at the age of 63, I became to sole guardian to my 1 and 3 year old grandchildren. The Northeast Y became a blessing. After work (Monday-Friday) we came directly to the Y, ate a light meal in the front, and then the children went to play and I could exercise. On Saturday the children had open play and I could exercise. In the summer, there was camp and Calypso Cove and as they grew old, there were sports.
10 years later and retired,
-I enjoy the Y at least 5 times a week for water exercise. Plus aqua groups are friendly and caring group of people from all walks of life.
-On Tuesday and Thursday from 9:30-11:30, I gather with a group from 5 to 16 to play Bridge. The Bridge is a strong support for me and others- we know each others challenges and we care.
-As much as possible I attend and support the Forever Young opportunities.
How many water aerobic classes their are
NE YMCA feels safe and clean. I feel comfortable working out in the gym (I have never felt comfortable working out in gyms in the past). I like that there is a safe and secure place for my daughter to play and that the staff is patient and kind to my little monster.
Calypso Cove is wonderful, and I love the hourly breaks. My daughter is now used to the whistles and knows when to get out without a fight; it has helped her be mindful of when she needs to use the bathroom. Speaking of bathrooms! They are so clean!
I find the gym and the swimming pool are clean and well maintained. The staff members are friendly and cooperative.

It’s a nice facility and there are lots of classes available. Everyone is super friendly and they just seem like normal people - not gym rats. There are all kinds of people there and I love the kids club for my 6 and 5 year old girls!

The Northeast Y has many classes and types of exercises that anyone could find one class to enjoy. I especially love the water classes. The instructors are knowledgeable and friendly.

The childcare component is phenomenal. Allowing for members to be able to workout while their kids are safe and having fun is truly a game changer.
