The new equipment is nice.
HAVE A LOT OF WORKOUT TYPES OF EQUIPMENT.
Variety in programs offered to visit individual needs, helpful staff and instructors.
Swimming, hot tub, steam room, sauna, yoga classes, Zumba, work out facilities
I take most of my classes at North River. I feel we are the step child.
I take Pilates and we have no where the equipment that Downtown does. I was in the downtown Pilates on the 8th, yes Bebe is great BUT she has more stuff than Carter has liver pills 😊
While I'm putting my a plug in for Northriver, the staff puts downtown to shame. They are as professional as anyone may want. The front desk calls you by name. What one doesn't know, the other does. To bad the facility doesn't come up to the quality of the staff.
The folks who clean the restrooms are so curtious. They go far above what you expect of them. A few times when I have interacted with them, they show a carrying heart.
I'm guessing you wanted feed back on downtown, sorry that your survey went to a new northriver member. I joined the Y in 1978 and was faithful until I move to Hixson. I'm sure the Y has kept my health at the level it is. I go to the Y 6-7 days a week, so I guess I have a good feel of your, our , facility
I love my Water Walking class and my instructor Megan. All of the staff are friendly, compassionate, and non-judgemental.

The Downtown Y is great and the equipment and facilities are always up to date. The only reason I'd hesitate to rate it a 10 is because parts of the Y are "off limits" to members. For example, I used to run on the track (lower level), but with the "bridge" I'm told, 'that's not for you, you need to be a member of the "bridge" beginning early in the morning. One of the racket ball courts has been turned into and "off limits" area unless you are a "higher class" member. I realize there are times when a class is being offered (for example the pool to teach swimming or for a water work out or a spinner class) but on the times between, or even a small area might still be used. I just don't see not allowing a member to even walk around the track while a weight lifting class is going on, or stretching in corner, etc. We share equipment all the time, but when you are restricted from areas of the Y when not being used for teaching I think we set up a "social structure" that's not healthy. I've been a member for 20 years and come everyday of the week.
The basement of the Downtown YMCA is my favorite place to be.The swimming pool has been a lifesaver for me. A decade ago my body was crushed. I was not expected to live 10 minutes... much less 10 years. Swimming saves lives.
Without the opportunity to swim in a warm clean pool I would be confined to bed. The first time I came to the pool after the accident I almost crawled to the pool. Today I try to swim two hours a day three days a week.
I thank God for the Downtown YMCA. The staff and facility are top notch. Just to look at the building from the street one would never know what a huge facility we have. Over 1500 people use the Downtown YMCA everyday.
Amazingly, the staff at the front of the house knows the name of most of the people (and certainly all the regulars) who come in the door. They greet everyone personally as we come o
In the door and usually when we leave.
The housekeeping staff is so good that they are barely noticed except to see their smiling face when they greet you like a friend. The facility is always sparkling clean... never a towel on the floor, a wastebasket overfilled, a spill on the floor or a smudge on the massive amounts of glass. Every bathroom in the facility always looks like it has just been cleaned.
That is an incredible job for a facility where 1500 people are in and out everyday and most of them shower there... a place where you never run out of hot water, soap, clean towels or friendly people.
I like the variety of machines, swim activities, and classes.

Love the group programs & activities- great times
The cost of membership. I do wish there were more classes to choose from during the hours of 10-11.
They are inviting and make me comfortable to attend!

In general, the Downtown Y is full of energy and familiar faces. Regarding programs and activities, I only attend yoga classes. They are never overcrowded. And are almost always exactly what I need for mental and physical exercise.
