I LOVE the Y (but I’d like to share a couple concerns first so I know they get read)
As I give the Y a HUGE thumbs up to people that don’t even ask, I’d like to comment about the child programs. This summer, I had my 3yo at the summer camp. It was quite disorganized and chaotic. It seemed like no one knew where the kids were and when I was supposed to pick up and drop off my child (even tho it was stated clearly in the emails). It seemed like people were surprised when I came and left, but I did so per the program drop off and pick up times.
I also tried date night for the first time last Friday. My 3yos dinner was stolen and eaten by another child, he didn’t have dinner until after we got home, and I learned after returning home that none of our Tupperware had been put back in his bag. I called about it the very next day and was told I’d get a call back shortly. I was never called, but, luckily, the Tupperware was there when I went in person a couple days later.
However, what’s quite a bit more concerning is that my 11mo was not fed his bottle (which was already pre-measured), nor any of the pre-chopped food I had in two containers, nor two food pouches that only needed to have the tops opened. When I picked him up I was told that he had been really tired and fussy. I’m sure he was simply starving. I was very disappointed to learn upon getting home that his food had not been touched and he is a BIG eater. So, I feel a bit dissappointed. I still hope and plan to do more summer programs, date nights, and childcare, but I hope there can maybe be a little more proactive planning beforehand so these things don’t happen again. For summer camps, maybe there can be a little more staff training as far as what the plan for the day and week are and when kids will be where. For date night, maybe one or two designated people can sit and/or watch the children diligently while they eat OR possibly the children could eat in shifts that might be more manageable. I would also have a chart for the little ones who can’t speak yet to tell you what they need. Maybe a chart with a checklist with names, when they ate, when they were changed, etc so something or someone doesn’t get skipped. I still LOVE the Y and hope you take my comments as constructive as opposed to a complaint. Maybe I could help brainstorm with you guys or ask some of my mommy groups.
Now to answer the original question...The classes, child care, date nights, family friendliness, how extremely fair the contracts are (cancellation policies, month to month memberships as opposed to yearly, affordability, etc), all the smiling faces and kind hearted people
Great for all ages and for the entire family! My husband and I bring our 4 kids there. My dad, who retired recently, was low on energy and very inactive. I insisted he come to the YMCA with me for a few days about a year ago. He now goes on his own several times a week and it has changed him for the better!
I just use machines
I like the classes. I love the weight room. I enjoy the break area. I try to work 5he puzzels
Fantastic helpful friendly staff!
I like everything about the Y. The people are friendly. It is very clean. When I have asked for help with equipment the workers have been very helpful. It is not overcrowded. I like the lively music to work out too. Overall good place. :)
Warm water pool. Use it 3-4 times a week.
i like the group exercise classes. There is an instructor named Janni at the Salem location and she is the best. Janni is certified, safe and remembers everyone's name and makes everyone of all ages and sizes feel welcomed and she works very hard on changing up the routines, etc She has a lot of followers. There is a cycle instructor named Dutchie that is good too. The instructors really make the classes fun.
Mainly just use exercise to achines.
