Jim Ross, the owner of the Lorton Mathnasium, is wonderful! He is professional, friendly, knowledgeable, accommodating, caring, thoughtful, and you feel like he is one of your family members. What we like is the way they go about teaching math, which is ensuring that the student understands and practices enough before they assess. If the student reached the desired outcome, they move on to the next concept, if not, they continue practice until they get it. It helps students to be confident in math and comfortable with concepts. Sometimes, students even become ahead of their class in math. They also have a reward system and insensitive, which encourages students to do even better. I wish I started my daughter on it as soon as they opened, but I am happy we made the decision to join. It’s only season three but our rising high schooler gives high reviews on her Geometry lessons. She actually asks to go! I would never have imagined this.
Remote learning throughout the pandemic was really hard on my daughter, and she fell behind in her school math class. As a result, she became discouraged, and would shut down when she didn’t understand the instruction. After coming to Mathnasium this past year, her confidence is way up and she regularly scores in the top of her class on math tests. We counted be happier with our experience at Mathnasium, or prouder of our daughter.
My daughter started a month ago and she has really seen improvement. She just took her SOLs and she said that her confidence was higher after the classses.

Jim and the staff are out of this world. They provide a welcoming space where my child is able to ask questions and get help without feeling intimidated or embarrassed! They are friendly, patient and knowledgeable! Understanding math is crucial and they help kids do exactly that!
