My daughter is 10 years old and in 4th grade. We just happened to be walking by the FV Mathnasium location while out shopping one day. Knowing she was really struggling with math, we went in and inquired about the program. The director, Kip was very welcoming. He answered my many questions and offered a free trial right then. My daughter did that and that was the start of a great thing. After the trial, on the way home, my daughter asked me to please not take her out of the program (I guess she thought I'd already signed her up!). A math hater had fun with math! We signed up by week's end and go faithfully. She asks to go daily and misses it on days closed. To gauge how much my daughter loves it I'll share a little something. On New Year's Eve when the ball dropped in NY at midnight, everyone said Happy New Year and toasted...my daughter shouted, "I Love Mathnasium!"
My daughter has improved in terms of counting without using her hands. For starters, she is starting to understand and grasp word problems involving multiplication. I believe Mathnasium is helping her build a foundation for understanding how numbers work and not just going through the motions of churning out answers for the sake of passing a test or a class.
